IL PROGRAMMA CREATIVE EUROPE DELL’UNIONE EUROPEA
Il progetto Cross-Looking, diretto dal fotografo Andrea Savorani Neri e cofinanziato dal programma Creative Europe dell’Unione Europea, esplora l’eredità condivisa di Gabriel Lekegian (1853-1920 ca.), fotografo armeno di Costantinopoli che fece fortuna al Cairo, e Salvatore Valeri (1856-1946), pittore italiano residente a Costantinopoli, che divenne insegnante presso l’Accademia fondata dal Sultano. Basato su quattro residenze a Yerevan, Istanbul, Il Cairo e Roma, con il coinvolgimento di giovani artisti internazionali, il progetto analizza criticamente il rapporto tra pittura, fotografia, e patrimonio culturale.

THE EUROPEAN UNION’S CREATIVE EUROPE PROGRAMME
The Cross-Looking project, directed by photographer Andrea Savorani Neri and co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, explores their shared legacy of Gabriel Lekegian (1853-1920 ca.), an Armenian photographer from Constantinople who, made his fortune in Cairo, and Salvatore Valeri (1856-1946), an Italian painter based in Constantinople, became a teacher at the Academy founded by the Sultan. Based on four residencies in Yerevan, Istanbul, Cairo and Rome, and involving several young international artists, the project takes a critical look at the relationship between painting, photography and cultural heritage.
