The MAECI Missions Lecture Series presents:
Change in Action: The Amasili House and Rosetta Project, by Dr Cristina Mondin
In this lecture, Dr Mondin will provide a detailed overview of the archaeological and conservation works carried out by the Italian-Egyptian mission since 2018 in Rosetta, with emphasis on the case of the Amasili House complex. The presentation will illustrate the efforts undertaken by the international multi-disciplinary team to conserve and maintain the Ottoman house with the scope of preserving Rosetta’s distinctive archaeological and architectural heritage. In addition, the project’s objectives included the development of a reproducible workflow for conserving this particular type of building located in a humid environment —such as that of Rosetta— and training local specialists. The project’s activities underlie the strong Italian-Egyptian collaboration between the mission, the MoTA, and the local community. Drawing from her experience, Dr Mondin will reflect on the future of Rosetta’s heritage.
