Conferenza: Tra Deserto e Mare, Indagini Italo-Egiziane a Mersa / Wadi Gawasis
La presentazione illustrerà i risultati della ricerca archeologica in corso a Mersa Wadi Gawasis (Safaga, Mar Rosso), il porto del Medio Regno verso la terra di Punt, e nel suo entroterra. Particolare attenzione sarà rivolta al Santuario di Ankhw e al settore occidentale del sito, fornendo nuove prove delle attività condotte nell’area. Inoltre, verranno delineate le caratteristiche di alcuni siti registrati nell’entroterra, risalenti dal periodo preistorico al tardo romano. Infine, saranno forniti dettagli sul programma in corso per la conservazione di reperti unici, come i legni per l’architettura navale rinvenuti nel sito del porto.

Lecture:Between Desert and Sea, Italian Egyptian Investigations at Mersa / Wadi Gawasis.
The presentation will outline the results of the ongoing archaeological research at Mersa Wadi Gawasis (Safaga, Red Sea), the Middle Kingdom harbor to the land of Punt and in its hinterland. Special focus will be put on the Shrine of Ankhw and the western sector of the site, providing fresh evidence of the activities conducted at the site. Moreover, the features of some of the sites recorded inland and dating from Prehistoric to Late Roman times will be outlined. Finally, details on the ongoing program for the preservation of unique finds like the timbers for naval architecture from the site of the harbor will be provided.
