Cristo si è fermato a Eboli di Francesco Rosi
Tratto dal romanzo autobiografico omonimo di Carlo Levi, che fu condannato al confino dalla dittatura fascista, il film racconta il suo arrivo a Eboli, un piccolo paese nelle terre desolate della Lucania. Lontano dalla vita cittadina, si ritrova in un villaggio isolato, dove la popolazione vive in estrema povertà, abbandonata dal governo centrale. Un luogo che sembra essere stato dimenticato anche da Dio, come suggerisce il titolo. All’inizio gli sembra come essere sepolto vivo,poi lentamente, quasi impercettibilmente, comincia ad interessarsi al luogo e ad amare la gente che ci vive: il goffo podestà, la sua fantesca maga, il prete, il barone. Il film evidenzia il contrasto tra la miseria del piccolo paese e la società moderna e politica che lo circonda, affrontando temi di ingiustizia sociale e alienazione tra le diverse classi della società italiana.

Christ Stopped at Eboli by Francesco Rosi
Based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Carlo Levi, who was condemned to exile by the Fascist dictatorship, the film recounts his arrival in Eboli, a small town in the wastelands of Lucania. Far from city life, he finds himself in an isolated village where the population lives in extreme poverty, abandoned by the central government. A place that seems to have been forgotten even by God, as the title suggests. At first it seems to him as if he were buried alive, then slowly, almost imperceptibly, he begins to take an interest in the place and to love the people who live there: the awkward podestà, his wizard, the priest, the baron. The film highlights the contrast between the misery of the small town and the modern, political society that surrounds it, addressing themes of social injustice and alienation among the different classes of Italian society.
