الفيلم مستوحى من رواية "I Malavoglia " للكاتب جيوفاني فيرجا ويتتبع أحد أشهر قصص الواقعية الإيطالية عن طريق الأحداث التي تمر بعائلة من الصيادين بمدينة أتشي تريتسا بصقلية.
